From the pre-production color pipeline planning, to the artistry in visual effects, color finishing and sound mixing, through to the manufacturing and distribution of the film's DVDs and Blu-rays, Technicolor teams across the globe continue to lead the industry in providing innovative talent and technology that empowers Oscar winning storytellers and helps bring their projects to life.
This year Technicolor worked on half of the Best Picture nominees, and also provided sound finishing for Best Foreign Language Film nominee Theeb, and color finishing for Best Animated Short Film nominee Prologue. Our Home Entertainment Services teams created and distributed the packaged media on 23 of the nominated films.
One of the big winners of the night, The Revenant, is an especially exciting project for Technicolor as our teams worked closely with director Alejandro Gonz lez I rritu and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC to help bring the survival epic to visceral life. The project was one of the most exciting and challenging undertakings of our century long-history. Technicolor provided On-Location Services, Dailies, VFX, Color Finishing, Mastering, and Marketing Services. We send a very special congratulations to everyone behind the cinematic tour de force The Revenant and to Mr. I rritu for his Best Director, Mr. Lubezki for his Best Cinematography, and Mr. DiCaprio for his Best Actor Oscar wins!
Not only does Lubezki's win mark his third in a row and solidify his reputation as one of the finest cinematographers working today, it marks the fifth straight Best Cinematography Oscar winner Technicolor has color finished -- previously Birdman, Gravity, Life of Pi, and Hugo.
Ridley Scott's space survival epic The Martian also earned MPC (Moving Picture Company), one of Technicolor's VFX studios, a Best Visual Effects nomination. Led by Production VFX Supervisor Richard Stammers and MPC VFX Supervisor Anders Langlands, the lead visual effects studio on the film helped put Matt Damon on Mars.
Adam McKay's dramatic depiction of the 2007 US housing market crash won for Best Adapted Screenplay. Congratulations to Technicolor Sound for providing the film with a unique and imaginative soundscape. While Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies won for Best Supporting Actor, Technicolor helped capture the 1950's era look of the film. And for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs, which had two nominations, Technicolor provided color-finishing and editorial services.
Technicolor is honored to be contributing to such an impressive entertainment landscape. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners on their projects, which helped make 2015 an exceptional year of storytelling.
