TiVo Announces Carson Calling Mannatech Involvement Total Propaganda as the Top Watched Moment of Last Night's Presidential Debate San Jose, CA Oct. 29, 2015 TiVo Research and Analytics, a subsidiary of TiVo Inc., today announced the top moments from last night's Republican Presidential primary candidate debate aired on CNBC. Held in Boulder, Colorado, the debate brought candidates together to discuss key issues of the day, but the most watched moment of the night was when Carson was asked about his involvement with Mannatech, a nutritional supplement company - to which he replied, That is total propaganda.
Continued analysis of more than 30,000 anonymous households across the United States allows TiVo to analyze what Americans most re-watched during the debate between the current Republican candidates including Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump.
Here are the top moments from the event:
TiVo Top Five Moments of the 2015 CNBC Republican Presidential Debate
#1 Carson: That is total propaganda
9:17 p.m.: When asked about his involvement with nutritional supplement company, Mannatech, Carson replied, "Well, that s easy to answer. I didn t have an involvement with them. That is total propaganda, and this is what happens in our society. Total propaganda. I did a couple of speeches for them, I do speeches for other people. They were paid speeches. It is absolutely absurd to say that I had any kind of a relationship with them. Do I take the product? Yes. I think it s a good product." When it was pointed out that Carson s image appeared on the Mannatech website, Carson stated, "If somebody put me on their homepage, they did it without my permission."
#2 Huckabee: "I m wearing a Trump tie tonight."
9:48 p.m.: When Huckabee was asked if Trump had the "moral authority to unite the country," the question was met by boos from the audience. Huckabee quickly leapt to Trump s defense calling the mogul "a good man," and asserting, "I m wearing a Trump tie tonight. Get over that one, ok?"
#3 Christie: Even in New Jersey what you re doing is called rude.
9:57 p.m.: After being interrupted several times during Christie s answer to a question about climate change, Christie chastised the moderator, saying, "Even in New Jersey what you re doing is called rude." The audience met Christie s comment with laughter before Christie touted New Jersey s standing as the country s number three producer of solar energy.
#4 Kasich: "America is great from the bottom up."
10:20 p.m.: In his closing remarks, Kasich repeated the answer he gave to a student who, at a Morning Joe town hall, asked him, "Can I still be idealistic?" His answer: "Absolutely. You can still change the world. And you know the old inscription-- If you save one life, you ve changed the world. Folks, we have a problem here with the leadership in Washington, but I ll tell you another problem: We need to rebuild our families. We need to have stronger families. We need to know who our neighbors are. We need to come together as a country because we have to realize that America is great -- not from the top down. Oh, yeah, we want to elect a good President, but America is great from the bottom up. And the bottom up is us -- in our families, in our communities, in our neighborhoods. We will renew American if we work together, and I am totally confident that we will. And God bless America."
#5 Cruz: "Famous Colorado brownies"
8:53 p.m.: Quintanilla referenced an earlier joke about Cruz not being a guy you d "want to get a beer with" when giving the senator 30 more seconds to speak. Cruz expressed his gratitude for the time, saying "Then I ll buy you a tequila...or even some famous Colorado brownies."
Many candidates, including Rubio, Cruz and Christie, got in some nice digs in this debate, but most of our top moments reflected interest in form over substance. What best grabbed viewers attention was when the moderators took hits from both the audience and the candidates on the questions they were asking, said TiVo Chief Research Officer Jonathan Steuer.
Methodology:
This TiVo Research analysis was prepared using aggregated, anonymous, second-by-second audience measurement data from approximately 30,000 anonymous households out of a daily sample of 350,000 subscribers to the Emmy Award-winning TiVo service. TiVo Research gauges the interest in programming content by measuring the percentage of the TiVo audience watching in "play" speed. TiVo Research determined the Top Moments from the Republican Debate that resonated most with TiVo subscribers.
