Brevity Adds 4K Capabilities to Offerings

Brevity, the software company that brought to market the first simultaneous transport and transcoding solution and super-accelerated file delivery, announced today its newly integrated 4K and motion compensated frame rate conversion capabilities, enabling seamless 4K workflows and frame rate conversion on-the-fly as part of its offering.

Moving 4K files across a wide area network has been considered impractical and expensive due to large file sizes. A single, full-aperture 4K frame in a DPX sequence is 48MB, and just 5 minutes of content at 24 frames per second results in a 172 GB file. With Brevity's simultaneous super-accelerated transport and transcoding, moving these large files between remote locations - for example between a post-house and a VFX house - no longer presents a challenge.

Brevity's lossless and visually lossless algorithms can reduce a 4K DPX sequence to up to 95% of its original size. In addition, Brevity's pipelined protocol can transcode those files into editorial formats such as ProRes or DNxHD on-the-fly, while the file is being transported, for unparalleled workflow efficiency.

Brevity not only transports 4K and UltraHD footage at super-accelerated speeds, but its patented pipelined transport and transcode protocol allows its customers to simultaneously transcode the footage to other formats. For example, a 4K DPX sequence can arrive at its destination not only in its original format, but also as a ProRes or DNxHD for editorial, and as an h.264 daily.

In addition to its newly added 4K support, customers can now benefit from Brevity's sophisticated motion compensated frame rate conversion, which is seamlessly integrated into Brevity's super-accelerated transport and transcode offering.

This frame rate conversion capability is also essential for distributors looking to quickly move content around the globe. US content at 59.94fps needs to be converted to 50fps for distribution in the UK, and vice-versa. Frame rate conversion also comes into play during post-production, when combining material shots at different frame rates.

By enabling file-based workflows for 4K despite bandwidth limitations, and providing motion compensated frame rate conversion on-the-fly, Brevity is simultaneously transporting and transcoding these files to multiple formats in a single seamless step, dramatically reducing time and money spent by its customers.
