The Port in focus

Filming on documentary O Porto do Rio wrapped Tuesday, August 20. Produced by Planet rio Filmes and co-directed by architect Pedro vora and filmmaker Luciana Bezerra, the picture was supported by Filme Rio-Rio Film Commission. Shooting started August 1st.

The documentary records the history of this important carioca spot through interviews with architects, residents, entrepreneurs, state government representatives and assorted locals, as well as through sequences showing construction work in the port area.

As a result of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Olympic Games, lately real estate of the port area of Rio has been the object of intense modernization work. The documentary s goal is to comment on the physical construction of the place and the emotional responses it triggers at a time when the port area is in great prominence.

Filming took place in several port area locations, including the old Moinho Fluminense mill, the docks (Cia de Docas), Armaz m da Utopia (Warehouse 6), Armaz m Cultural, Morro da Provid ncia, Pier Mau , the RB1 building, construction sites, MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio), the Perimetra overpass, Cais do Valongo e Cais da Imperatriz, Jardim Suspenso do Valongo, F brica da Bhering, Pedro Ernesto street, Livramento street, Gamboa street, Bar o de Tef street, Filhos de Gandhi, Pedra do Sal and Largo S o Francisco da Prainha, among the various spots that were chosen as together they offer a wide view of that place s plurality.

FR-RFC was super important in this process. President Julia Levy went with us to the meeting with the port area authorities and gave us full support. It was good having this help , says Clara Machado, head of production. O Porto do Rio is scheduled for a June 2014 release.
