Fox Sports' New 4K Workflow, Specialty Cameras Turn Citi Field Into a Production Playground

Setting up for a production as large as the Major League Baseball All-Star Game (Tonight, 8 p.m., Fox) is enough of an undertaking. Now throw on top of that, that there's an almost equally as popular and technologically demanding of an event the Home Run Derby going on the night before in the same building that is produced by an entirely different network. Fox Sports will deploy a whopping 39 game cameras across Citi Field for tonight's MLB All-Star Game, yet that just begins to scratch the surface as to what will be going in the stadium and outside in the 10,000 square-foot production compound.

ESPN Goes Long with Enhanced Home-Run-Tracking System at Derby

Baseball's biggest power hitters took the stage at Citi Field Monday night live on ESPN to crown this year's Sultan of Swat, King of Crash, Colossus of Clout the Home Run Derby champion. Oakland A's outfielder Yoenis C spedes ended up capturing that mantle, but in the process, ESPN viewers were treated to a bomb-astic telecast chalked full of unique camera angles, up-close-and-personal player audio and video, and an enhanced Home Run distance-tracking system.

From Parade to Postgame, MLB Network Has Midsummer Classic Covered

When MLB Network hit airwaves in 2009, New York City had just hosted the All Star Game a few months prior to launch. Now that the midsummer classic has returned to the Big Apple, MLB Network isn't just present at Citi Field. They're making sure coverage of this year's All-Star Week is the biggest and best yet. Beginning with Monday's press conference and extending through the All-Star Game postgame show on Tuesday, MLB Network has 14 hours of programming planned across the two days.

MLB All Star Audio It's Complicated

Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game on Fox Sports will be the noisiest one yet, if the number of microphones is any indication. Working from one of four Game Creek Fox vehicles on site at Citi Field, A1 Joe Carpenter is presiding over a huge array of inputs. These include 48 effects microphones coming in from effects submixer Bob Qua, including first, second, and third base and four wired players two from each team plus the home plate umpire.
