Aquaculturalist Krzysztof Wojtkowski has become the winner of Alone Australia Season 2 after surviving 64 days in the extreme and wild terrain of New Zealand's South Island (Aotearoa's Te Waipounamu), Completely isolated, stripped of modern possessions, contact and comforts, while challenged by the merciless forces of nature, hunger, and loneliness, the 39-year-old outlasted nine other participants to win the life-changing prize of $250,000.
Krzysztof said: I still can't believe that I've won. The thought of being the last person standing was never on my mind. For me, just getting out there and getting the opportunity to experience this was the big win for me. Time is finite, you only get so much time in the world, so make the best of every opportunity. I spent 64 days alone, but I never felt alone. I got to camp, I got to build things, I had a million-dollar view. I've learnt a lot from the experience and I'm so grateful for it.
Ahead of tonight's final episode, after 54 days, three participants remained - Personal Trainer & Subsistence Hunter Andreas, Wilderness Adventure Guide Suzan and Krzysztof. They all pushed themselves to their personal limit in hope of being the last one standing.
After 57 days, Andreas's competitive streak reached a tipping point as he pushed his body in search of food. After losing 30 per cent of his starting bodyweight, he said There is no way in any shape or form that I can sustain myself here any longer This is as far as I'm willing to risk my health and sanity. Suzan relied once again on foraging to buy her more time in the competition, but with thoughts of home intensifying, she tapped out after 63 days. I really did want to bring home the $250,000 to the family, you know, and that was a real drive. But more than that disappointment is the happiness of moving towards home, to my own forest, to my own pack.
Krzysztof's physical state had deteriorated further and a scheduled medical check on day 64 confirmed it was no longer safe for him to continue in the competition. But he's told by crew that it's not a medical extraction. With his partner Erin on her way to New Zealand, the producer confirms she was hoping to be the one to tell you that you're the last person standing. You've won! While in recovery, Krzysztof reflects on his journey while Erin sneaks up on him from behind giving him the surprise of a lifetime.
As the season comes to an end, Alone Australia has cemented its place as one of the biggest hits of 2024 with more than 4 million viewers tuning into the series so far. Five episodes have now achieved a Total TV reach of over 1 million viewers and the series is among the most watched shows on Australian BVOD.
Off the back of this success, SBS premiered a special one-hour reunion program Alone Australia Season 2: The Reunion. Hosted by popular comedian, podcaster, TV Presenter and Alone super fan Hamish Blake, the entire cast reunited for the first time since they were dropped into the extreme and wild terrain of New Zealand's South Island (Aotearoa's Te Waipounamu), in what was an emotional, hilarious, and truly insightful conversation with shock revelations and never-before-seen footage. All episodes of Alone Australia Season 2 and Alone Australia Season 2: The Reunion are now streaming on SBS On Demand.
Kathryn Fink SBS's Director of Television said: Well done to Krzysztof on surviving 64 days alone in such a brutal environment, while inspiring so many around the country. Alone Australia has once again captured the public imagination. We've followed the highs and lows of our incredible cast over the past ten weeks and have been captivated by their raw and authentic stories.
Following the enormous success of the launch of Alone Australia last year, the second series has also drawn significant audiences on TV and on SBS On Demand. We're delighted the show has once again positioned itself as a standout hit of the year and demonstrates the strong shift to the multiplatform on-demand world that television is increasingly moving to.
ITV Studios Australia CEO and Managing Director David Mott said: Firstly, I would Iike to congratulate Krzysztof, this season's winner of Alone Australia, and extend this to all of our participants this year. They have all delivered and shared their remarkable journeys under the most trying of conditions. I am also enormously proud of our team at ITV Studios Australia on producing such a world class series, once again, and to the team at SBS for their unwavering support and commitment.
Alone Australia is an A+E Media Group format and ITV Studios Australia production for SBS.
