Cody Calahan and the Team at Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment Prepare for the Next Big Release in their 8 Picture Deal.
TORONTO (June 13th, 2016) - From Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment, and the team behind the breakaway indie-hits Antisocial, The Drownsman, and Bite comes Let Her Out directed by Cody Calahan (Antisocial). This is Calahan's first departure from the Antisocial brand, moving in a different and far more terrifying direction.
Filmed and set in Toronto, Let Her Out follows Helen, a bike courier who suffers a traumatic accident. As she recovers, she begins to experience strange episodic-black outs, hallucinations, and night terrors-that lead her to discover that she has a tumor, a benign growth that is the remnants of a vanishing twin absorbed in utero. Over time, the tumor manifests itself as the dark and demented version of a stranger. As Helen's emotional and psychological state begins to deteriorate further and further, she begins to act out in psychotic episodes -influenced by her evil twin- making her a danger to herself and her best friend, Molly. It's only a matter of time before this evil side of Helen will take her over completely.
Since 2012, I have been immersed in the world of Antisocial. While shooting both the original film and its sequel, I was also preoccupied developing a new idea very different from these two horror/sci-fi films. I was determined to branch out and create something that was as unsettling as possible, while keeping it grounded in an urban environment. The idea was to have a horror movie that, in all its insanity, was happening, right now, just down the street from the viewer. We wanted a viewing experience as similar to a slow-building anxiety attack as possible. The result is a different type of film that moves incredibly fast, contains some truly bizarre twists and turns, and a ton of WTF moments. We also did not shy away from the movie's Toronto setting whatsoever, which is a first for us! - Cody Calahan, Director/Producer
The filming process was a whirlwind! It opened my eyes to a darker side that I didn't realize I had access to. At times I felt as if Helen's mental anguish had seeped in to my own subconscious, but when you finally get to step back and watch some of the playbacks you look and think, wow that was chilling! Having Cody as a director was an immense support throughout this process. Although sometimes neither of us knew where the scene would take us or how something was going to turn out, his vision always remained clear of what he wanted to achieve and how he wanted it to reach the audience. His support and guidance was always reassuring and welcomed especially at times of my uncertainty. says Alanna LeVierge, Lead Actress.
Let Her Out is directed by Cody Calahan (Antisocial), written Adam Seybold and starring Alanna LeVierge, Nina Kiri and Adam Christie. The film is produced by Chad Archibald (The Drownsman, Antisocial, Antisocial 2, Bite, Bed of the Dead) Cody Calahan (The Drownsman, Antisocial, Antisocial 2, Bite, Bed of the Dead) Christopher Giroux (The Drownsman, Antisocial, Antisocial 2, Bite, Bed of the Dead) with Co-Producer / Director of Photography Jeff Maher (Antisocial, Antisocial 2, Bite), Supervising Producer Audrey Velichka and Executive Producers Nat Abraham, Ira Levy, Michael McGuigan and Peter Williamson.
