Blackmagic updates its popular Video Assist 3D conversion tables, new options for the focus indicator, and greater support for DNxHD/HR formats are some of the new features of version 2.3.
Blackmagic Design It has unveiled at InterBEE 2016 (Tokyo) the new version 2.3 of Video Assist both models Blackmagic Video Assist that includes 3-d conversion tables. This release offers also new features for the 5 inch model, including support for DNxHD/HR, function false color formats and more options in terms of focus and screen rotation. This update can be downloaded free of charge from the Blackmagic Design website.
With this update, users can load up to six 3-d conversion tables to monitor on the set of recording images with Blackmagic Video Assist models 5 to 7 inches. These have become an indispensable tool in the field of digital cinematography, since they allow the material captured by cameras similar in appearance to the desired by the director. The advantage of this way monitoring is that the crew has the ability to view recorded content according to the style that the director has in mind, without altering the original images recorded by the camera. This update allows you to store and apply up to six 3-d conversion tables, and is available for Blackmagic Video Assist and Blackmagic Video Assist 4K models.
For users of the 5 inch version, this new update offers benefits that had already been previously added to the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K model.
These include the possibility of keeping DNxHR and DNxHD format MXF files, which improves compatibility with such Avid applications in Windows. On the other hand, to make the recording, users can choose variants HQ, SQ and LB, as well as different transmission speeds.
At the same time, the new version Video Assist 2.3 offers the opportunity to create false-colour images to check the level of exposure. This tool facilitates the setting of this parameter in different areas using solid colors to highlight specific ranges of luminance. For example, green corresponds to the neutral gray, while the rose is a good reference for skin tones. The use of this innovative feature allows operators maintain a constant exposure from an outlet to another value.
The new version provides also additional options in terms of approach that allow the user to see the traditional indicator or select one of the various available colors. This gives the ability to make adjustments more accurately in a wide variety of scenes and different lighting conditions. On the other hand, now the function of automatic screen orientation can be disabled, in order to facilitate the use of the device with stabilizers and other equipment designed to move the camera and its platform simultaneously.

Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design, emphasizes that "the Video monitor Assist is the ideal solution for users who require a comprehensive content monitoring and recording tool." This update provides exceptional monitoring of content through the use of conversion tables in both models. At the same time, he joined the 7 inch version the same high quality features integrated in the smaller model. The amount of features included in the product is extraordinary, considering the reasonable price of $495. This is the reason for which has become a device essential for filmmakers, since it facilitates the filming of optimum quality images through the use not only of DSLR cameras and other older used tape recording, but also of those more recent digital support."
