Gift of the Magi: Christmas Day Film Openings

Once youve cleaned up all the wrapping paper and put away the Christmas ham, head to the theaters to see these films.

Christmas Day openings are becoming more and more popular. This year, there are quite a few films worth trekking outside to see.

Grudge Match (dir. Peter Segal)

Raging Bull and Rocky converge as two aging boxers are given the chance to face off one last time. The rivals struggle with life after their sports careers are over, and feel this is their last chance to prove something.

Legends Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro don their gloves and start training. Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart, and The Walking Deads Jon Bernthal also star.

47 Ronin (dir. Carl Rinsch)

Keanu Reeves stars in this updated samurai film adapted from actual 18th century events. The group of 47 samurai set out to avenge the dishonorable killing of their master as they battle human and supernatural beings.

A lot of people have been waiting with bated breath for this film. First announced in 2010, the trailer gives fans a lot to look forward to, including the supernatural elements added to the historical story.

The Wolf of Wall Street (dir. Martin Scorsese)

We have been patiently awaiting Scorseses adaptation of Jordan Belforts memoir. The film, which has been compared to Good Fellas, has already picked up some nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

The film follows the rise and fall of Wall Street wunderkind Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), a trader who is corrupted by unimaginable wealth. We see him in all his careless, selfish glory as only Scorsese can portray it. The amazing cast includes Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, and even Jean Dujardin (The Artist).



Dont expect an explicit disapproval of Wall Street practices; Scorsese fans know thats not his style. Jordan Belfort is far from likeable, but you cant deny DiCaprios comedic abilities as he portrays a man completely convinced of his invincibility. Filled with party scenes and gratuitous sex, this may be one you avoid seeing with your parents.
