Geoff Hill appointed as Editor of ITV Network News

Geoff Hill appointed as Editor of ITV Network News ITN and ITV announced today that, following a joint recruitment process, Geoff Hill has been appointed as Editor of ITV Network News.

In his new role, Hill will be responsible for all of ITV's award-winning national news programmes, ITV News London, ITN-produced Tonight programmes, live specials and documentaries for ITV, and the award-winning website and livestream itv.com/news.

Currently Editor of Channel 5 News, Hill said: I'm honoured and excited at the prospect of leading some of the finest journalists in the world. From BAFTA and Emmy award winners to multi-media journalists breaking news online ITV News is full of passionate, talented people who put everything into every programme they make. I'll be leaving Channel 5 News with mixed emotions after all that the team has achieved in launching a new service and breaking new ground, but I can't wait to start this next challenge by returning to ITV News.

He has already made a huge mark at ITN - first at ITV News, then launching Setanta Sports News, and again in returning from CNN to relaunch Channel 5 News. In each role, he's shown dedication, continual innovation and a capacity to motivate teams to reach new heights that will serve him well in one of the most coveted jobs in TV news.

Hill has over 20 years of journalism and TV news experience, most recently as Editor of Channel 5 News a role he took in late 2011 ahead of the service returning to ITN. During that time, he has recruited and developed a talented team, relaunched the new service, and overseen award-nominated home and foreign coverage, a studio build and a new programme launch with the critically-praised NewsTalk Live. He has also collaborated with ITN creative hub ITN Productions to supplement news coverage of key stories with fast-turnaround documentaries and specials for the channel.

He rejoined ITN from CNN International, where he was Director of Coverage in a role that saw him lead content for the network across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. During this time, he oversaw CNNs coverage of the Amanda Knox trial in Perugia, as well as the Royal Wedding, UK elections and South African World Cup.

Prior to CNN, Hill worked for ITN for nearly a decade from 2000 until 2009 where he held senior input and output positions at ITV News, rising to Programme Editor, with responsibility for the flagship News at Ten. He went on to launch and run the 24-hour sports news channel Setanta Sports News as Editor-in-Chief, developing a schedule from scratch and leading a team of nearly 60 people.

His appointment follows the departure of Deborah Turness, who recently joined NBC as President of NBC News.
