Lemwerder, June 26, 2013. Stefan Weil, Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, today learned more about the current state of wind energy in Germany during this year's summer trip to SGL Rotec in Lemwerder. This occasion provided insight to the Prime Minister's delegation that included local politicians and journalists into the latest generation of rotor blades. New materials such as carbon fiber and partially automated processing technologies enable for the manufacture of lighter, more streamlined and stronger rotor blades. This is why they are becoming increasingly relevant for offshore applications as well as areas without a great deal of wind. SGL Rotec is a leader in this field and its customers include leading wind energy companies.

Dr. Juergen Koehler, member of the Board of Management of SGL Group: Germany is a pioneer in introducing renewable energy sources and commercializing wind energy. We aim to use our innovative products to contribute to making the Made in Germany' seal of quality an economic success in this sector. The situation in this overall industry however remains difficult as there are minimal signs of momentum gaining in the energy revolution. This makes it all the more important that political decision makers provide their full support by creating the necessary general conditions.

Lemwerder, a former EADS site, has a highly favorable location for logistics and its own access to the Weser River, which is used for transport to the North Sea and Baltic, as well as water routes to other regions. This is important because transporting rotor blades over 65 m long by land poses an expensive logistical challenge. With approximately 900,000 m of undeveloped area, the site is the largest bordering industrial area between Bremen and the mouth of the Weser. An additional advantage of this location is the more than 700 qualified employees who call Lemwerder home.
