Proteas have an awful record vs India in ICC events

Two matches into their Cricket World Cup campaign, the Proteas are yet to register a victory, and recent history against their next opponents dictates that the misery could still continue.

After defeats to hosts England and Bangladesh at The Oval, South Africa head to The Ageas Bowl for a clash against two-time world champions India, who kick off their campaign on Wednesday.

The two sides were acquainted quite recently in the 50-over format in a bilateral series, where India came out tops in convincing fashion blowing their opponents away with 5-1 series win on SA soil.

Last time Proteas beat India in a major eventPerhaps more concerning for South Africa is how they have fared against India in ICC events in the past decade.

The last time a clash in a major tournament went the way of the green and gold was in the World Cup back in 2011, where Dale Steyn starred with the ball picking up five wickets to restrict the eventual champions to 296 before half-centuries from Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers saw his side over the line.

Amla and Steyn make up half of the Proteas players from that victorious side are in the current setup, with captain Faf du Plessis and all-rounder JP Duminy completing the set.

For India, only skipper Virat Kohli and the man who led the side at the time, MS Dhoni will be taking that unhappy memory into Wednesday's fixture.
