Actor/director is among the latest members of the Academy's Science and Technology Council

Actor/director Andy Serkis is among the new appointments to the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
He is well known for pushing technological advances in film-making through his work with motion capture technology as an actor and director, as well as a founder of Imaginarium Productions. He has been a member of the Academy's actors branch since 2012.
Serkis joins archivist and film historian David Pierce and Jeffrey White, a film and TV producer who specialises in visual effects, as the newest members of the SciTech Council, which is currently led by co-chairs Craig Barron, visual effects branch governor, and member-at-large Annie Chang.
Serkis has been recognised a number of times for his contribution to the advancement of technology's use in production. In February 2020 he received BAFTA's Outstanding Contribution Award, while in September 2019 he was awarded IBC's International Honour for Excellence.
