Martinus Olckers, who's popularly known by Bacardi fans as Matenase Wadi Yobisi says his entire day at school became miserable when he received the news that his friend Itumeleng Mosoeu aka Vusi Ma R5 is dead.

BACARDI MUSICIAN MOURNS VUSI MA R5 The popular Bacardi musician Matenase Wadi Yobisi tells Drum that he got the phone call that shocked him to the core when he arrived at school on Monday that his working partner Itumeleng Mosoeu aka Vusi Ma R5 is no more.

I am so sad, I lost a friend, and a working partner, it is not easy to digest the news.

Martinus Olckers, popularly known as Matenase Wadi Yobisi, rose to fame after his dance moves where he was cheered by his best friend, Mandla Kayise went viral on social media.

Mosoeu's management Tribal Records confirmed his passing to The South African in a statement:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vusi Ma R5, a beloved and talented artist who inspired countless fans and fellow artists with his music. The artist Itumeleng Mosoeu allegedly ran into an unfortunate incident that led to his untimely passing in the early hours of Monday morning, 30th January 2023.

The family's spokesperson and director of Tribal Records, Mothusi told Drum that details surrounding the cause of his death are still being investigated.

HOW MATENASE WADI YOBISI JOINED THE GENRE Drum reports that Martinus Olckers aka Matenase Wadi Yobisi won many adoring fans and got booked and busy because of the late Bacardi king Vusi Ma R5.

Olckers adds that he had the best December as he performed with the late Itumeleng Mosoeu to ring in the New Year.

Mothusi called me and my friend Mandla about the viral video. He asked if we wanted to make music, about what?' we asked and he said Barcadi. But by then I only knew Amapiano, so they taught me Barcadi.

It is a very nice genre of music. The groove is so much fun. I was so excited to have met with Ma R5 because I used to listen to his music every time before going to school.

The high schooler says he enjoyed being in the studio with the late Pretoria star and that he couldn't believe it.

I think it was in July or around March. I had so much fun, I enjoyed being in the studio for the first time with Vusi Ma R5. At first, I didn't believe it, I thought we were being scammed but I met him in person. He was super friendly.

I will miss the groove with him and Team R5. I'll miss his presence. But I'll continue making some more music to honour his legacy, he gave me Bacardi which later became my life, so I'll continue with the music and Tribal Records.
