Goodbye 0, Hello 0!

The 2012 MotoGP season concluded in Valencia on Sunday 11th November, with Dani Pedrosa claiming a stunning win in inclement conditions.

With a wet track drying rapidly as the start of the race approached, Pedrosa had chosen to start on wet tyres, however as the parade lap concluded he made a split second decision to switch to dry tyres and darted into the pits. This meant he gave up his pole position to start from the pitlane, putting him at the back of the field.

He rapidly made his way up to second place, passing some on track and others as they pitted for dry tyres, putting him behind the 2012 world champion, Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo, however, crashed out in spectacular fashion when he put his dry tyres onto the wet part of the track as he was lapping a backmarker. This left Pedrosa with a huge lead ahead of second place, and he took the flag almost forty seconds ahead of Katsuyuki Nakasuga, with Casey Stoner claiming the final podium position in his final race before retirement.

With the 2012 awards ceremony taking place in the evening after the race, the riders and teams then had a chance to enjoy their off-season, which lasted all of one day! As they returned to the Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana on Tuesday, the 2013 season started in earnest, with many riders appearing on different bikes for their new teams, including Valentino Rossi who had returned to the Yamaha team after two disappointing seasons with Ducati.

Unfortunately, the rain that had affected the race continued in a stronger vein, and the riders only a spent a fraction of the time they would have liked to on the track. In fact, Rossis Yamaha team decided to miss the Wednesday test and headed north to the Motorland circuit in Arag n, but the conditions were no better at the inland circuit, and they achieved little additional running.

Throughout the race weekend and official test, Gigawave engineers were on hand to demonstrate our latest products and test new systems for 2013. Amongst the products that saw action in Valencia included the new 1/3 micro camera, which was fitted to Andrea Doviziosos Tech 3 Yamaha for the race, an H.264 equipped on-board transmitter, our new hand-held receiver and also Gigawaves latest version of its popular Clip-On wireless camera transmitter.

The new Clip-on 4 saw its first live TV action in front of MotoGPs 300 million viewers. Featuring H.264 encoding and Gigawaves intuitive colour screen menu system, it can also be supplied with Link Researchs LMS-T modulation format as an option. Handed over on arrival at the circuit to Dorna Sports, MotoGPs commercial rights owners, who provide the timekeeping and television coverage, the Clip-On was live-to-air an hour later without any assistance from the Gigawave engineers, proving how easy the latest products are to configure.
