SCTE ANNOUNCES NEW TEST STANDARD, RECOMMENDED PRACTICES; SETS THREE STANDARDS SESSIONS FOR SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO
Expo Sessions to Include HEVC/Adaptive Streaming, Energy 2020' and Network Operations
AUG. 20, 2014 (Exton, PA) The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced continued progress in the creation of standards and best practices for energy management and network operations, as well as the availability of three standards sessions at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 next month in Denver.
SCTE has made available three new documents Product Environmental Requirements for Cable Telecommunications Facilities Test Methods (SCTE 203); FCC Proof-of-Performance Checklist for Analog and Digital Signals (SCTE 204); and Outside Plant Power Recommended Preventive Maintenance Schedule (SCTE 205) at no charge at www.scte.org/standards. At the same time, SCTE is preparing other energy and business continuity recommended practices documents for final approval in the coming months.
SCTE will host three 90-minute standards sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014. These include: An 11 a.m. session outlining the SCTE Standards Program and discussing projects related to HFC Readiness for DOCSIS 3.1, High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and Adaptive Transport Streaming and MPEG; a 1 p.m. "Energy 2020" session that will outline the product requirements and standards needed for cable's next generation of energy-efficient networks and equipment; and a 4 p.m. Network Operations session that will discuss FCC Proof-of-Performance, LTE Interference and Power System Reliability.
Following are highlights of the new standards and recommended practices documents:
SCTE 203 has been created to define test methods to evaluate equipment compliance with criteria specified in ANSI/SCTE 186, Product Environmental Requirements for Cable Telecommunications Facilities. SCTE 203 leverages existing industry best practices for smart energy use in mission-critical IT spaces and applies these to the specific characteristics and requirements of cable system hub sites as they relate to power, density and performance.
SCTE 204 provides a guide to FCC-required technical standards for analog and digital signals, including performance requirements, how often to test for performance, where the testing should take place, and what types of testing should be conducted.
SCTE 205 serves as a reference document for proper preventive maintenance on outside plant cable power systems including power supplies, batteries, transponders and enclosures with the goal of optimizing system performance and reducing outages and truck rolls.
SCTE recommended practices that will be available in the near future are expected to address Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery; Recycling; and Carbon Data Collection.
Scheduled for Monday through Thursday, Sept. 22-25 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, SCTE Cable-Tec Expo once again promises to be the leading venue for helping the cable telecommunications industry and its workforce to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction. This year's general sessions will feature keynote insights from two of the industry's most notable executives: Rob Lloyd, president, development and sales for Cisco Systems, Inc., and Mike Fries, president and CEO of Liberty Global.
Expo exhibitor, advertiser, and sponsor opportunities are available. For more information on exhibit space, please contact Lori Bower at lbower@scte.org. To request information on advertising or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Heather Gosciniak at hgosciniak@scte.org.
The SCTE Standards Program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Complete information about the SCTE Standards Program including how to become involved as an SCTE Standards Program member is available in the Standards section of the SCTE website at www.scte.org/standards or by e-mailing Travis Murdock at tmurdock@scte.org.
