Robert Peston joins ITV News expert line-up as Political Editor

ITV announced today that award-winning journalist Robert Peston will join ITV News line-up of expert journalists as Political Editor and will host a new Sunday programme, Peston on Sunday .

Robert succeeds Tom Bradby, who was recently appointed as anchor of ITV News at Ten. He will be responsible for reporting and commentating on political affairs across ITV s full range of news and current affairs programmes, appearing frequently on ITV News at Ten to discuss the political developments of the day.

For much of the year, Robert will also host Peston on Sunday , a brand new political interview programme on ITV, providing viewers with an intelligent and lively approach to politics. Having established a reputation as one of Britain s most interesting bloggers and users of social media, his political journalism will feature at the heart of ITV News website and social media outlets.

Of his new role, Robert Peston said: "I am very excited by ITV s plans to create a distinctive and authoritative new voice in news and political coverage. Leaving the wonderful BBC has been the hardest career decision of my life, but it s impossible to turn down an opportunity like this.

Robert joins from the BBC where he has held the role of Economics Editor since October 2013, spending eight years before that as BBC Business Editor. He won acclaim for his coverage of the financial crisis, while his exclusive 2007 reports on Northern Rock seeking emergency financial help from the Bank of England earned him the Royal Television Society s Scoop of the Year award. In 2008, he went on to win prestigious Royal Television Society awards for Television Journalist of the Year, Specialist Journalist of the Year and Scoop of the Year, with his journalism also being recognised by the London Press Club, the Broadcasting Press Guild, the Webbys and the Wincott Foundation.

Robert started his journalistic career in newspapers as a journalist on Investors Chronicle, The Independent and The Independent on Sunday. Between 1991 and 2000, he worked for the Financial Times as Political Editor, Financial Editor, Banking Editor and head of its investigations unit. He has been Associate Editor of The Spectator and a columnist for The Times, The Sunday Times and New Statesman. In 2002, he joined The Sunday Telegraph as City Editor, latterly taking up the role of Associate Editor in 2005.
