Ottawa - On May 8, 2017, Thales welcomed Chris Henderson, Deputy Commissioner, Strategy and Shipbuilding of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), to its Maritime Integration Lab built to support the construction of the Coast Guard's new Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV). The vessels are part of Canada's non-combat fleet under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

Thales has completed the second of three integrated bridges that will be installed aboard the OFSVs in Vancouver. The integrated bridge contains equipment procured from companies in seven provinces, which are then integrated and fully tested in the Ottawa lab before being shipped to Vancouver. The second bridge will be shipped this month, on time and on budget. About the Seaspan - Thales relationship:

In May 2016, Thales Canada and Seaspan announced a $35 million contract to provide the electronic systems for three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels under the NSS. Thales is also under contract with Seaspan for the initial phases of the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel for the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Support Ships for the Royal Canadian Navy.

As a Tier 1 partner of Seaspan, Thales is responsible for the selection, procurement and integration of the electronic systems and equipment on the vessels being constructed in Vancouver. As a champion of innovation in Canada with a long history of successful partnerships, Thales is investing significantly in its maritime capabilities, including maritime focused R&D and its new Maritime Integration Lab.

The Ottawa Maritime Integration Lab serves as an integration and test facility for the systems that Thales is providing for both CCG and Royal Canadian Navy vessels. This facility, along with the creation of 70 jobs in the Nation's capital, demonstrates how the NSS is generating economic benefit for Canadian companies and for communities like Ottawa.
