KCETs Open Call Observes the Iranian/Persian New Year with Documentary, the Iran I Remember

Burbank, CA - March 18, 2013 - In commemoration of the Iranian/Persian New Year (Nowruz), KCETs original series Open Call will present the feature-length documentary, The Iran I Remember on Thursday, March 21 at 9 p.m.

This 50-minute documentary chronicles Los Angeles based filmmaker Morteza Rezvanis journey back to his homeland of Iran. In what began as a trip to attend a wedding, Rezvanis visit developed into a much deeper purpose: a search for his family roots. The film is an exploration for his past intertwined with the history, culture, and literature of Iran. Filmed during the Nowruz season this documentary is also a revealing portrayal of how Iranians celebrate this ancient tradition.

Winner of the Audience Favorite Award at the 2012 Noor Film Festival and the Best Director Award at the 2012 Cincinnati Film Festival, The Iran I Remember captures a personal and reflective view that is rarely seen in the Western media.

ABOUT MORTEZA REZVANI

Morteza Rezvani is an accomplished filmmaker and producer based in Southern California. While earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Motion Picture Productions from University of California, Los Angeles, he worked at ABC Television Network as a cameraman and video engineer, which led to his career as a professional sound mixer. His credits include: The Wonder Years, Joan of Arcadia, The Bernie Mac Show, O.C., Criminal Minds, Breaking Home Ties, and Miracle Mile. During his profession as a sound mixer, Mr. Rezvani also pursued his passion in filmmaking, producing short films and documentaries, such as: Act Without Words II, based on a mime of the same title by Samuel Beckett; The Eastside Story, which explores the life of a lone gang member in East LA who struggles to survive living in the close proximity of a rival gang; Los Angeles: A City Unleashed, which portrays the love and the ambivalence of people who call Los Angeles their home; At Home with Mother Earth, a documentary that explores the field of Earth Architecture as it is practiced around the world; and In the Realm of Faith, a film that covers the journey of Rezvanis family to various religious institutions where they learned about the practice of each religion from the parishioners. Mr. Rezvani was also a former member of KCETs Community Advisory Board from 2004 - 2010, and had served as the CAB Chair in 2010.
