Amsterdam, 12 februari 2019 - Het filmen van Ares, de eerste Nederlandse Netflix Original serie, is begonnen in Amsterdam. De cast bestaat uit Jade Olieberg, Tobias Kersloot, Lisa Smit, Robin Boissevain, Frieda Barnhard en Gouden Kalf winnares Rifka Lodeizen. De serie wordt geregisseerd door Giancarlo Sanchez en Michiel ten Horn en is geschreven onder leiding van Michael Leendertse. Ares verschijnt dit jaar op Netflix.

Ares is een achtdelige psychologische horrorserie over beste vrienden Rosa en Jacob die worden uitgenodigd door een geheim studentengenootschap in het hart van Amsterdam. Ze geven zich over aan deze wereld vol rijkdom en macht. Maar dan blijkt deze plek gebouwd op demonische geheimen uit het Nederlandse verleden. Een plek waar zij een verschrikkelijke prijs betalen om bij de elite te horen.
Ares wordt gemaakt door productiebedrijf Pupkin en geproduceerd door Pieter Kuijpers (Van God Los, Feuten, TBS), Iris Otten en Sander van Meurs. Het script is geschreven door Winchester McFly (Bankier van het Verzet, Smeris): Michael Leendertse, Thomas van der Ree, Joost Reijmers, Matthijs Bockting, Pieter van den Berg en Sarah Offringa. De cast bestaat verder uit Roos Dickmann, Jip van den Dool, Steef de Bot, Janni Goslinga, Dennis Rudge, Minne Koole, Jennifer Welts en Florence Vos Weeda.

Jade Olieberg (speelt Rosa Steenwijk)
Jade debuteerde in de speelfilm Hoe overleef ik mezelf?, gebaseerd op de populaire boeken van Francine Oomen. Ze speelde ook mee in de films Zomer, Julias Hart en televisieseries zoals Ik weet wie je bent, Penoza, Celblok H, Dokter Deen en Van God Los. Jade speelde ook een rol in een aflevering van de Amerikaanse CBS-serie Ransom in 2018.
Tobias Kersloot (speelt Jacob Wessels)
Tobias speelde in televisieseries zoals Brussel, Tessa, Klem en in speelfilms als De Re nie, Publieke Werken en Kappen. Onlangs had hij een rollen in series Nieuwe Buren en Van God Los - Dienstpistool waarvoor hij de FIPA-prijs kreeg voor Beste Mannelijke Acteur.
Lisa Smit (speelt Carmen Zwanenburg)
Lisa begon haar acteercarri re op 12-jarige leeftijd in de horrorfilm voor kinderen De Griezelbus. Hierop volgden succesvolle rollen in televisieseries als Willemspark, Dokter Deen, Max & Billys Drill Machine Girl, Project Orpheus en speelfilms als TBS, Shocking Blue, Lena, Kenau, Redbad en Die Quellen des Lebens. Dit jaar speelt ze in de Nederlandse film Baantjer en is ze genomineerd voor Beste Actrice op het Amsterdam Shortcutz Festival voor haar rol in All the Single Ladies.
Robin Boissevain (speelt Roderick van Hall)
Robin Boissevain werd bekend bij het grote publiek door zijn rol als David in de jeugdfilm Spijt!. Nadien speelde hij verschillende rollen in televisieseries als Gouden Bergen, Flikken Maastricht en Moordvrouw. Robin heeft ook de film Parnassus en de korte film Woody Gold geschreven en geregisseerd. In 2019 speelt Robin een rol in de Nederlands-Belgische coproductie Grenslanders.
Giancarlo Sanchez (regie)
Giancarlo S nchez won verschillende prijzen voor zijn werk als regisseur, onder meer voor zijn afstudeerproject Gameboy. Voor zijn film Horizon won hij in 2016 een Gouden Kalf voor Beste Televisiedrama. Sinds 2018 is S nchez onderdeel van Superprime Films. Recent regisseerde Giancarlo nog de succesvolle misdaadserie Mocro Maffia.
Michiel ten Horn (regie)
Regisseur en scenarioschrijver Michiel ten Horn debuteerde met de film De Ontmaagding van Eva van End, die zijn wereldpremi re beleefde op het Toronto International Film Festival. Ten Horn werd door Variety uitgeroepen tot een van de tien European Directors to Watch. Zijn tweede speelfilm Aanmodderfakker won verschillende prijzen, waaronder drie Gouden Kalveren voor Beste Acteur, Beste Scenario en Beste Film.
Over Pupkin:
Film- en televisieproducent Pupkin staat bekend om het ontdekken en ontwikkelen van filmtalent. Pupkin produceert uitdagend drama, vari rend van jeugdseries, auteurs gedreven speelfilms tot true crime. Zo produceerde Pupkin de speelfilms Riphagen en Aanmodderfakker, de series Smeris en Van God Los en de jeugdproducties Jongens en Taart (beiden genomineerd voor een Emmy).
