Are households ready to receive 4 K over IP? South Korea tops the list of the 10 first countries/regions whose connectivity would be ready to receive Ultra high definition. In Europe, three countries (Switzerland, Netherlands and Sweden) carried out more than one-fifth of their connections at a speed greater than 15 Mbps.

With streams of bitrate Adaptive 4K (Ultra HD) which usually require between 10 and 20 Mbps Broadband, the new metric of "Preparation for 4K" presented for the first time in the report on the State of Internet in Q1 2014, driven by AkamaiIt highlights the percentage of connections at speeds greater than 15 Mbps, with the aim of identifying geographies candidates to be more likely to suffer these streams. The results do not represent other factors of preparing, including the availability of content encoded with 4K or TVs and 4K-ready players.

Globally, 11 percent of the connections were carried out at a speed of 15 Mbps or higher in the first quarter of 2014. With 60 percent of preparation for 4K, South Korea topped the list of countries/regions first 10 in terms of preparation for 4K, while Japan made 32 percent of its connections to Akamai to 15 Mbps or higher. A total of six European countries were placed among the top ten countries/regions; Switzerland (No. 4), Netherlands (No. 6), Sweden (No. 7), Norway (No. 8), Finland (No. 9) and Czech Republic (No. 10).
