Minister Lindiwe Zulu has invoked the words of Nelson Mandela' during a 6 October speech about the delivery of SASSA Child Support Grants in Houghton, Johannesburg.

During the report, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provided statistics about the Child Support Grant and its history.

Ms Zulu referred to one of Nelson Mandela's most famous quotes during the speech, ending the meeting with his words.

SASSA: We do not want freedom without bread.' Minister Lindiwe Zulu (SASSA) has quoted the famous words of the struggle icon at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton, Johannesburg.

The quotation reads:

We do not want freedom without bread, nor do we want bread without freedom. We must provide for all the fundamental rights and freedoms associated with a democratic society.'

This focuses attention on the need for government support, which is called for from all government departments in a position to assist.

The speech by Minister Lindiwe Zulu took place on 6 October, discussing the history and future of the Child Support Grant.

SASSA: What else the speech says The speech also says that the government is concerned' about high levels of child poverty rates in South Africa.

In the same speech, Ms Zulu says that a whole of government approach' will be necessary to eradicate experiences linked to child poverty.

The cumulative cost of children who live in poverty and those who experience hunger will only be realised in the future.'
