Cooper Helps Bulls Celebrate Triple-A Championship Title

NC Governor Roy Cooper helps celebrate the Durham Bulls in honor of the 2017 International League Championship on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday honored the Durham Bulls as they celebrated their Triple-A championship title.

The celebration gave Durham leaders a chance to highlight the teams importance to the Bull Citys economy and quality of life as they celebrate their 20th anniversary.

In the past 20 years, the Bulls have won two national titles, 13 South Division championships and theyve participated in the Governors Cup Finals 11 times, winning five of them.

Cooper said thats the kind of resume that helps him sell North Carolina.

This is the kind of hub people are attracted to and it helps us in recruiting jobs to North Carolina, Cooper said. People know about the Bulls, from reading about them, from the movies. Its just a great place to come and watch a baseball game.

The Bulls also used the occasion to make another major announcement. The team said Wednesday that it has extended its partnership with the Tampa Rays for another two years.

The hope is championships in the minors could lead to championships in the majors.
