Wimbledon & GoPro Serve Up a Unique Spin on the 06 Championships

Steeped in tradition, Wimbledon brings together top athletes to compete in the world's most prestigious tennis tournament. Held over two weeks at the All England Club, it's not unusual to see Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Box on Centre Court observing this two-week long tournament. With both ladies' and gentlemen's play occurring, the event showcases incredible athletic talent, nail-biting five-set matches, and of course, plenty of strawberries and cream. Not to mention the signature Wimbledon whites (all players must wear white-yes, there are lots of grass stains).

Although customs and traditions are very important aspects of the Championships, the event continues to push the boundaries to create cutting edge ways to experience the competition. For tennis fans, the viewing angles in tennis haven't changed since the sport began being televised. We're used to the same tried-and-true baseline view of the action. GoPro and Wimbledon have set out to change this, bringing viewers closer to the action, providing unique POV angles to elevate the way you watch the game. GoPro created this video to give viewers an inside-out view of this years Wimbledon coverage.

The Championships has been a record-setting tournament since its inception. Not only is Wimbledon the oldest Grand Slam, the longest tennis match ever at 11 hours and 5 minutes was played on its hallowed grounds in 2010. GoPro went courtside with two other record breakers, ATP doubles partners and twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, aka the Bryan Brothers, in honor of the 10-year anniversary of their first Wimbledon title. Utilizing custom solutions to place cameras on players, racquets, nets, and even tennis balls, the GoPro team captured cinematic, unique shots of the twins as they prepare for the Gentleman's doubles championships, and hopefully their 113th career championship, a record.

This Bryan Brother's winner is not the only thing people will be excited to watch. Next week, GoPro will be causing quite the racquet with an immersive never-before-seen VR piece of the players on court, giving you the ultimate Wimbledon experience.
