NCTA President and CEO to Headline Leading Cable Technology Event

AUG. 6, 2013 (Exton, PA) Michael Powell, President and CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, will headline the Opening General Session of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 in October in Atlanta.

Powell and Kevin Hart, executive vice president and CTO of Cox Communications and chairman of the Cable-Tec Expo 2013 Program Committee, will engage in a conversation-style keynote on Tuesday morning, Oct. 22. The keynote discussion is expected to address a variety of prominent industry technology and policy issues.

Powell served as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from 2001-2005 and was an FCC Commissioner for eight years. Prior to joining NCTA in 2011, he served two years as co-chairman of Broadband for America, a coalition of more than 300 companies dedicated to expanding the discussion of broadband availability in the United States.

Earlier this year, Powell served as a guest speaker at the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program at Dartmouth College. The last time an NCTA president and CEO addressed SCTE Cable-Tec Expo was a "town hall"-type event with Kyle McSlarrow in 2007.

"We are witnessing a period of tremendous innovation in cable technology that is enabling our industry to offer an exciting new range of products and services," said Powell. "By working collaboratively to create a climate that encourages continued development and technical excellence, NCTA, CableLabs and SCTE are driving growth of new products and services that are improving the consumer and business experiences."

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 is set for Monday through Thursday, Oct. 21-24. Two pre-conference symposia, "DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering" and "Creating the Cable Generalist," will be held on Monday, Oct. 21. SCTE Cable-Tec Expo and the symposia will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
