Council Chair Climer Hailed as Engineering Leader Ahead of IBC06 Conference Seions

Incoming IBC Council Chair Naomi Climer has recently been named in the top 50 most influential women in engineering in the UK by the Daily Telegraph and included in the top 50 most influential women in IT in the UK by Computer Weekly. Climer, who has taken over from Peter Owen as IBC Council Chair, will feature in the Rising Stars and Business Transformation streams of the IBC2016 Conference.

On Saturday 10 September, in a Rising Stars Power Lunch: Ask the Experts session, she will join Keith Jackson, NBC Universal SVP Engineering to discuss broadcast technology in an informal setting. It's one of three curated tables, each focused on a specific topic, to share best advice on the latest developments in their line of work and answer any questions the audience may have.

On Sunday 11 September, a Business Transformation session titled New Era, New Skills in Broadcast and Media will examine how to attract the right people into the industry. How do we attract the brightest and most creative technological minds who understand IT and media and how do we retrain the teams who have served us well in the pre-IT era? Naomi Climer will join David Atkins, Technical Director at Suitcase TV, to lead this discussion.

In additon to her Council role at IBC, Naomi Climer is President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Chair of the UK Government (DCMS) Future Communications Challenge Group (FCCG) looking at the technology opportunities for the UK around 5G. The IET is one of the world's largest engineering professional bodies with over 167,000 members in 150 countries.

Climer's career has been spent in the broadcasting and communications technology industry, starting in engineering at the BBC and most recently as President of Sony's Media Cloud Services, based in Los Angeles. Previously, she headed Sony's B2B organisation across Europe (Sony Professional) covering diverse markets including media, broadcast, cinema, sports, security and healthcare. She is a well known thought leader in the broadcast and media industry internationally and an active campaigner for gender diversity within the engineering profession and beyond.

The inaugural list of the top 50 women in engineering in the UK was recently published to coincide with National Women in Engineering Day. The list, compiled by the Daily Telegraph in collaboration with the Women's Engineering Society, features the UK's top influential female engineers chosen from almost 900 nominations.

Computer Weekly's list of the 50 most influential women in UK IT, now in its fifth year, showcases role models in the IT sector and discusses how diversity can make a huge difference to the future of IT.
