The cast and crew of popular soapie 7de Laan will film their last episode this October as the show will come to an end when season 24 ends in December 2023.

7DE LAAN': WRAPS UP FILMING According to the 7de Laan popular Facebook page @7deLaanMyNouAmptelik the Afrikaans show will film their last show next Friday, 27 October.

The SABC reported in July that the show is coming to end after 23 years on air. SABC 2 and Danie Odendaal Productions also confirmed that the long-running popular soapie will not be recommissioned for a new season.

The brainchild of Danie Odendaal, 7de Laan made its debut on SABC 2 on 4 April 2000, bringing to life much-loved characters such as Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma, and the Meintjies family who all became household names.

Executive producer Thandi Ramathesele told Jacaranda FM in a statement that the show that touched the lives of many South Africans for over two decades is ending.

As we come to the end of this chapter, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated cast and crew who have poured their talent and passion into bringing the show to life.

It is bittersweet to say goodbye, but we are filled with pride for the impact 7de Laan has had on our society, addressing important social issues and fostering [inclusivity], the show has made its mark on South African television. Thank you for being a part of this remarkable journey with us.

SABC SOAPIE HALTS PRODUCTION TshisaLIVE reported in September that the cast and crew of Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan halted production due to payment delays by the SABC.

However, in a turn of events, Danie Odendaal announced that production was set to resume.

After further engagement with the SABC regarding outstanding payments, Danie Odendaal Productions is pleased to announce that although the full amount owed has not yet been settled, there are now sufficient funds to resume production. We confirm that production will recommence on Thursday, September 7. The cast and crew are committed to delivering the high-quality content our fans and viewers deserve, read a statement from Odendaal.
