National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has announced the launch of a new channel, Nat Geo People, which features true stories and realistic journeys of real individuals and fascinating subcultures from around the world.

Nat Geo People is set to launch early next year in 50 countries and will be available in HD and both linear and non-linear formats across Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Along with sister networks National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo People provides partners and viewers with a diverse mix of programming that aligns with its trademark brand values through innovative storytelling and powerful narratives.

National Geographic has covered stories of people from around the world for 125 years, and the international launch of Nat Geo People is a natural, strategic extension for NGCI, offering an exciting new way to deliver this kind of content with heart and impact, says Ward Platt, CEO of NGCI.

Hamish Mykura, NGCI s executive vice president and head of International Content adds: Nat Geo People will bring viewers emotional and entertaining true stories of real people; think of it as Real TV as opposed to Reality TV. Our focus is on compelling characters who take you into riveting subcultures and on exhilarating adventures.

Mykura and NGCI s global content hub team based in London will oversee the networks content and programming strategy while guided by input from programming teams in local markets.

Programmes that make up part of the premiere schedule are:

David Rocco s Dolce Vita features celebrity chef David Rocco bringing interesting people and great food together in a 13-part season based in Italy.

Food Lover s Guide to the Planet tells an intimate culinary tale through the eyes of foodies from around the world.

Nine-part series Ladyboys, follows the connection between British expats and their ladyboy lovers in Thailand.

French journalist and host Diego Bu uel offers an insider look at dangerous and inaccessible countries in Don t Tell My Mother.

Hook, Line & Sisters features female fishing duo Sierra and Memry competing in the high-stakes, male-dominated world of commercial fishing as they trek to a remote Alaskan location to earn an entire year s living in just three short months.
