Workshops by Sharjah Government Media Bureau to Help...

Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the media and communication arm of the Government of Sharjah, will host two separate workshops for people with disabilities and children, as part of its outreach efforts for the Sixth Edition of International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2017).

In line with the directives of the Government of Sharjah and the wider UAE to empower all segments of society, the workshops will aim to familiarise diverse social segments with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which form the central theme of this year's forum.

The first workshop will draw the attendance of HE Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, as the guest of honour and seeks to engage people with disabilities in the process of finding long-term solutions to the current challenges facing the world. The session will reiterate the importance of proactively supporting the SDGs that 193 countries across the world have officially agreed to achieve by 2030.

Similarly, the second workshop, which will be led by 25 members of the Sharjah Children Shura Council, as well as a number of talented children from Sharjah Children Centers, will call upon young members of the society to step up and take the required action to help the world's nations achieve the ambitious development goals.

Jawaher Al Naqbi, Manager, International Government Communication Forum, said: These workshops bring to life the theme of IGCF 2017 Societal Participation Comprehensive Development' - because they drive home the inclusive nature of the SDGs and highlight the urgent need for all segments of society including children and people with disabilities to act responsibly and take the necessary action to help achieve the global development goals.

She added: Through strategic communication that focuses on the world's most pressing challenges today, we hope such workshops will help build awareness and a spirit of social responsibility and solidarity among future generations towards their country. Once we achieve that objective, we will witness more innovative solutions emerging to deal with the world's development problems. Everyone can do their part, even by simply bringing about small changes in their daily habits.

Set to run from March 22 to 23 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, the IGCF 2017 will convene more than 100 speakers and participants, and draw the participation of more than 150 international delegations, as well as 200 regional and global government communication experts, in the presence of nearly 3000 attendees.

Under the theme Societal Participation Comprehensive Development', the definitive Sharjah Forum will examine ways of utilising government communication to serve the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), which have become the top priority of government programmes, international institutions, media organisations and civil society.

Launched in 2012 in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the International Government Communication Forum is designed to showcase global best practices in government communication and enhance the performance of governments through improving their communication with citizens.
