Cisco Hosts the Worlds Largest Internet of Everything Classroom during NetAcademy Day in Milan Inspirational sessions and Ideas Hackathon create new applications and prepare for jobs of today and tomorrow

MILAN 26 January 2015 Today, Cisco hosts the Cisco NetAcademy Day, the 2nd Annual gathering of over 10,000 global NetAcademy students to explore the potential of the Internet of Everything to drive new social innovation, new skill requirements and employment.

In the prelude to Cisco Live! Milan, 1,500 students will gather, with thousands more joining virtually for a day of sessions with Internet of Everything technology leaders, visionaries and innovators who will hope to inspire and educate this next generation of IoE experts.

A 48 hour hackathon, with a selected number of NetAcademy students, will follow the main event challenging eight teams using IoE technology as the inspiration, to create ideas focused on creating social change whilst learning soft and technical skills. The best ideas will receive Internet of Everything hardware and software to help them further realise their ideas.

"Internet technology knowledge is increasingly vital for every job. Students who combine the fundamental skills in key technologies, such as security or networking, with those like problem solving, will be well-positioned to help companies succeed," said Harbrinder Kang, VP, Corporate Affairs. "The Internet of Everything will accelerate the need for skilled talent to lead application development and new social innovation. The Cisco NetAcademy Day aims to inspire this new generation to become global problem solvers, as architects of the Internet of Everything"."

The Cisco Networking Academy programme is a noncommercial ICT training programme established in 1997 that equips one million people every year with the skills to succeed in today and tomorrow s increasingly connected world. Networking Academy students worldwide gain the ICT skills needed to build, design, and maintain computer networks, improving their career prospects while filling the global demand for networking professionals.

"In Europe, we know that the demand for ICT workers is outstripping supply. There are about 26 million people unemployed in Europe, and the European Commission expects there to be up to 900,000 unfilled vacancies by 2020", said David Bevilacqua, Vice President, South Region, Cisco EMEAR. "We recognized that the Internet of Everything will create further demand for higher-paying, skilled jobs and we are creating a specific curriculum that addresses these opportunities."
