SMT Names Lee Brinson as VP of Client Services By Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director

SMT (SportsMEDIA Technology), the leading innovator in real-time data delivery, graphics presentation and video enhancement solutions for the sports and entertainment industries, has named Lee Brinson as the company's Vice President of Client Services for its Durham, N.C.- based division.
Lee Brinson has been named Vice President, Client Services at SMT.
Brinson leads SMT's team of account managers who deliver innovative, Emmy-winning software applications to its clientele of broadcasters, event organizers, sports teams, stadiums and organizing bodies to enhance the productions of the world's most high-profile sporting events. Brinson works closely with SMT's Engineering Department to coordinate the development of broadcast solutions that have in the past included football's yellow first-down line; official scoring systems for the NHL, NBA, PGA and tennis Grand Slams; and the real-time positional tracking system for NASCAR.
Lee's experience, in-depth live television production knowledge, technical prowess, and confidenceinspiring steady demeanor will serve SMT's clients and account managers exceptionally well, says Gerard J. Hall, SMT CEO and founder. Lee's more than 20 years of experience at SMT and his recent role as Director of Special Events perfectly align with the long-term goals of SMT for its Durham Client Services team. SMT's Executive Team is excited to see Lee's circle of influence within the company expand to this much-deserved level.
Brinson began his career with SMT in 1998 as an intern as he was completing his senior year at UNC-Chapel Hill. In the next two decades, Brinson has worked in many capacities at SMT, rising from remote technician to Director of Special Events before being named Vice President, Client Services.
Brinson's career at SMT was launched at the 1998 Winter X Games in Crested Butte, Co., for which SMT developed the scoring systems for every event of the extreme sports tournament, including snowboarding, snowmobiling and skiing. Together with a team of engineers and technicians, Brinson tested and set up the scoring systems, and was also tasked with digging snow trenches for the timing lines. Afterwards, Brinson's role on the remote technical operations team expanded to include support for events including NASCAR, IndyCar, Red Bull, NFL, NCAA football and the Tour de France.
Since 2000, Brinson has led SMT's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament initiative, training SMT's remote operators on how to statistically score a game and recognize storylines while providing every real-time, statistical interface to broadcasters. That same year, Brinson won a Sports Emmy Award for outstanding Technical Team Remote for his work on ESPN SpeedWorld: NASCAR. In 2010, Brinson was part of the SMT team that won two Silver Telly awards, the highest award offered by the organization, for its video production and supporting virtual graphics used at the inaugural pre-game show in the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium during the 2009-2010 season.
In 2018, Brinson was named Director of Special Events, a position that required extensive national and international travel, including managing the day-to day operations of the monthlong Tour de France broadcast support as part of the roving production cavalcade. Brinson graduated with degrees in English and communications from UNC-CH. He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, Julianna, and children, Amelia and Noah.
