New Diopters for creative cinematography from Tiffen
Diopters are specialized supplementary close up lenses for creative use, enabling a lens to focus closer than the normal minimum focal distance. Tiffen have introduced variations of diopters which create in-camera effects and partial focus changes.
These new Tiffen Diopters are available in Full Field, Split, Third Cover FX Spilt, Letterbox and Strip.
Full Field Diopters 138mm
Full Field Diopters are used to shorten the close focusing distance when using fixed focal length or zoom lenses for greater magnification of the image. This is extremely useful for Anamorphic lenses which do not have a particularly close focusing distance. Additionally, diopters are very useful at medium distances for controlling depth of field.
Split Diopters 138mm
Split Diopters are an incredible tool that helps you enhance depth-of-field. They allow for more of the scene to be in total focus simultaneously. They can be rotated in a Matte-Box to achieve the desired effect.
Third Cover FX Split Diopters 138mm 50mm Cover
These Diopters act similar to the regular splits, however they cover less of the lens and are narrower than normal splits. These help accommodate different focal lengths, image sizes and compositional choices.
Strip Diopters 138mm
These Diopters allow you to achieve very creative in-camera effects. They are a tool that invites experimentation. These diopters allow you to achieve varied and specific focus choices.
Available in both 15mm and 30mm Strip.
Letter Box Diopters 138mm available in 15mm & 30mm Letterbox 1, 2, 3
Letter Box Diopters are the reverse of the Strip Diopters. An open slot in the centre (similar to a slot in a mail/letter box) is flanked by diopter glass on either side. These diopters allow you make creative focus choices for dramatic compositional effects. Available in 15mm and 30mm formats.
