TeliaSonera subsidiary Moldcell first to launch 4G in Moldova

27 November 2012 On November 16, Moldcell launched 4G services for the very first time in Moldova. Super internet browsing speeds, quality and mobility these are the features that now can be experienced by the first 4G clients. 4G redefines the concept of communication and opens new opportunities for Moldcell's business clients and for Moldova.

With 4G, customers can use superfast mobile internet access, offering mobile broadband speeds up to 10 times faster than with todays Turbo-3G. Moldcell's 4G coverage is expanding through a fast and continuous roll-out. Initially the services will focus on areas with the highest needs for high mobile data capacity, such as crowded city centers.

Moldcell's new 4G network stands out through its quality, clearly superior to other wireless technologies. The launch of 4G services will place Moldova among the most technologically advanced countries in the world, says Tero Kivisaari, President of business areas Eurasia and Mobility Services. 4G technology has also entered into the world of devices and is now available in both mobile phones and tablets, enabling a superior surfing experience for customers.

TeliaSonera was the first operator in the world to commercially launch 4G in 2009. Today we offer 4G services in nine countries; Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, pioneering the Nordic and Baltic markets with superfast mobile services, as well as in Eurasia in Azerbaijan since June 2012 and now also in Moldova. TeliaSonera has also made 4G live connections in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and we continue to roll-out superfast mobile internet everywhere, to the benefit of our customers.

Facts Moldcell SA was established in October 1999 and began its commercial operations as the second GSM operator in Moldova on April 28, 2000, Moldcell's 2G network covers over 97% of Moldova's territory and population (excluding the Transnistria region). Moldcell launched 3G services in 2009 the first in Moldova and among the first in the Eurasia region, and as of Q3/2012 covers about 73% of the country's territory. In 2011, Moldcell finalized building the nation-wide fibre-optic backbone network.
