The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) and the Association of Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) are taking a delegation of emerging South African filmmakers to the Berlinale Film Festival's European Film Market (EFM) and partner with established filmmakers to mentor them leading up to and at the market.
ATFT will register as a delegation at EFM and have a stand for South African filmmakers in attendance. The association will take a total of 20 filmmakers and producers to EFM this year through the DTIs emerging filmmakers group scheme under SSAS. Any South Africans attending EFM are welcome to join the delegation and make use of the DTI-sponsored facilities.
The second South African Indies stand at the Berlinale Film Festival is made possible by the South African Department of Trade and Industry (dti) and is supported by WESGRO, the Gauteng Film Commission and the Mandela International Film Festival. For an introduction to the delegates and their films one can visit the stand.
There is a catalogue of the dti-supported delegates with their films, projects in development and company profiles available online from The Callsheet and at the stand (no. 109) in the Marriott hotel.
There will be an invitation-only South African co-production session hosted by the South African consulate and a cocktail reception hosted by the embassy. An after-party of South African music and dance is also to be held hosted by the Mandela International Film festival, with DJ Tshepang Ramoba flying in specially all the way from home for the event.
We are excited to be at the Berlinales European Film Market for the second year in a row with a stand and 20-strong delegation of talented filmmakers. This is the second-largest festival and feature film market in the world and its important that South Africa is represented there - made possible by the DTIs EMIA incentive, comments Mayenzeke Baza, International Relations, ATFT.

S dafrika 1971, 85 min, Englisch
Umbango (The Feud)
R: Tonie van der Merwe, D: Innocent Popo Gumede, Kay Magubane, Hector Mathanda, Dumisane Shongwe, Fikile Majozi
S dafrika 1986, 69 min, Zulu mit engl. UT
