Photograhy Monly - Rotolight: Hollywood s next big A-lister

Photography Monthly Magazine recently wrote a fantastic feature on Rotolight's latest Hollywood exploits with the Rotolight ANOVA and Rotolight RL48.



Rotolight are the winning choice of lighting equipment on the set of Tom Hanks' latest film, Captain Philips and have illuminated many a face of Hollwood it seems.

The Rotolight RL48 Ringlight rubbed shoulders with the stars on the million dollar set. The lights performed their best on-stage acting of their career as they illuminated the narrow dingy corridors of dark ships.

The pro lighting must have been an obvious choice to 6 time Oscar winner Barry Ackroyd, Director of Photography for such films as Hurt Locker. The lights are designed to be versatile and easily portable, which must be an essential when you're squeezing down the galleys of ships in the dark.

Chief lighting guru, Harry Wiggins (no relation to Bradley sorry) said, We shot Captain Phillips on different ships all over the world and there was one light we always took with us the Rotolight.

Perfectly-sized and with a built-in gel kit, it was my get-out-of jail card and was always right there on my belt. It was neat, punchy and saved time by the bucket load; small enough to hide behind an existing fitting to boost it, powerful enough to key on it's own. When we wanted that little bit extra, wherever we wanted it and at whatever temperature we wanted it, clunk! Rotolight.

So move over Hanks, this show is all about Rotolight!

Rotolight's stardom doesn't end there though, oh no. Mr Hanks was just one of many stars that the lighting company got up close and personal with. Other Hollywood illuminations include:

Amongst others, but we were just too star struck by this point!

So it's thanks to Rotolight that all those face we know and love look so, well, lovely! It's worth remembering that sometimes the true stars of the show are the ones behind the camera.
