LEVA Celebrates 5 Annual Conference, Explores Multimedia Evidence Technologies

The Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) will explore several aspects of today's growing world of digital evidence during the 2014 LEVA Digital Multimedia Evidence Training Symposium, which runs Oct. 6-10 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. This year's five-day event is the nonprofit organization's 25th annual conference, which has been hosted by cities across the United States and Canada.

The 25th conference marks a milestone for LEVA. Were fortunate to be able to celebrate it for one main reason, our members, said LEVA president Det. Blaine Davison, Norman, Oklahoma, Police Department. Most of the ideas for the training topics we offer come from feedback we solicit from our membership. It is because of them this event continues to grow in size and popularity both within the forensic community and LEVAs corporate sponsors and partners.

The five-day conference schedule includes a mix of hands-on workshops, case studies, and interactive seminars, as well as an exhibit hall and networking opportunities. Some sessions are focused on forensic video and audio technologies, including training for CARDINAL MiniLab forensic digital audio plug-ins, VideoFOCUS forensic video software and the Omnivore portable digital video capture tool. Other sessions will highlight production, post production and Web design tools from Adobe and Avid.

Beyond tutorials, conference sessions will cover topics including multimedia and screen capture fundamentals, video and image compression, cell phone forensics, guidelines for in-car video systems, and forensic video workflows. There will also be a three-day Courtroom Testimony for Forensic Video Analysts course, which is limited to 24 students, and a two-day Reverse Projection Workshop with a 14-student limit.
