SES has signed a new long-term multiple transponder contract with Arqiva to serve its television and radio customers in the UK and Ireland.
With its fleet positioned at 28.2 degrees East, SES has served more than 12 million satellite households in the UK and Ireland at year-end 2012.
Our investment in the complete renewal of our fleet at the 28.2 degrees neighbourhood and our access to additional frequencies at this neighbourhood, give Arqiva an ideal base to serve its wide range of broadcasting clients and to address large audiences in the UK and Ireland, said Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer of SES. This new contract underlines the attractiveness of our satellite offering for the UK and Irish market and is a strong component of our long-standing partnership with our valued customer Arqiva.
Barrie Woolston, Commercial Director, Satellite and Media for Arqiva said of the agreement, Arqiva is dedicated to providing the very best service for our customers and this requires a global and flexible satellite solution. This new contract with SES will provide us the capacity to achieve this.
SES and CETel Ink New Capacity Deals to Meet Growing Connectivity Demands in Middle East
CETel has renewed a multi-year deal and signed a new multi-transponder capacity deal with SES to provide services to meet the escalating demand for VSAT services and corporate networks in the Middle East.
Under the new contracts, CETel will be leasing 80 MHz capacity on SES' NSS-12 satellite to extend its VSAT networks for corporate and governmental networks across the region.
CETel, one of the leading teleport and satellite service providers in the Middle East, Africa and Europe, offers dedicated VSAT services for corporate and governmental networks and GSM backhaul services, as well as hub hosting and managed solutions, from their teleports. Its teleport is headquartered in Germany, with affiliate offices in the UAE.
Demand for satellite capacity in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia has been increasing in the last few years, said Guido Neumann, Managing Director of CETel. We are pleased that we can rely on the global expertise of SES to provide reliable satellite capacity and offer flexible solutions for our customers in the region.
CETel was one of our first NSS-12 customers back in 2008. With this latest agreement, it reinforces our long-standing partnership with them and is a testament to the reliability of NSS-12 s high-powered capabilities, said Simon Gatty Saunt, Vice President of Data & Mobility services at SES.
SES to Operate Additional Satellite Spectrum at the 28.2/28.5 Degrees East Orbital Arc
As previously announced last year, SES has been granted rights to use German Ku-band orbital frequencies at the 28.5 degrees East orbital position effective from October 4, 2013 onwards pursuant to a 2005 agreement with German media service provider, Media Broadcast ( MB ) (as successor to T-Systems Business Services). MB holds a licence for these frequencies issued by the Bundesnetzagentur, the German regulator, on the basis of German filings that have priority under the rules of the International Telecommunication Union. This press release provides an update of developments concerning the dispute with Eutelsat.
The agreement will give SES the right to use, on its fleet, 500 MHz of bandwidth at this orbital position adjacent to SES's 28.2 degrees East in the frequency bands 11.45 - 11.70 GHz and 12.50 - 12.75 GHz in downlink and 14.00-14.50 GHz in uplink. SES has procured and will launch and operate new satellites (ASTRA 2E and ASTRA 2G, where launch is currently scheduled for this and next year, respectively) at the 28.2/28.5 degrees East orbital arc, along with the ASTRA 2F satellite which was launched last year, to replace SES's existing fleet at 28.2 degrees East and to provide new capacity. The new satellites in this neighbourhood will use the additional frequency spectrum as of October 2013 for DTH satellite television services in the U.K. and Ireland and for other services inside and outside of Europe.
