Sony and Object Matrix have brought together their expertise in object storage, digital preservation and media asset management platforms to provide a tightly integrated solution set aimed at any organisation that has to protect, curate and preserve digital video assets. By bundling MatrixStore object storage with the next generation of Sony Optical Disc Archive technology, organisations are able to protect their assets from ingest through to archive on proven, scalable and future proof platforms. The workflows are also entirely flexible and can be driven by 3rdparty applications, the Object Matrix applications or via the Sony Media Navigator MAM.

The initial focus is to help broadcasters and post-production facilities protect their rushes, work in progress and masters for the short, medium and long term. The combined solution is also very well suited to organisations outside the media and entertainment sector, such as those in the medical imaging space, an industry that also has strong requirements to protect, curate and preserve content both on site and offsite to ensure business continuity.

The bundles, available through the Sony reseller channel, will contain any of the following elements:
Capacity packs of Object Matrix. From 60 terabytes useable
Move2ODA. A HSM application that moves content from MatrixStore to ODA Libraries using the Sony ODA APIs
Sony ODA libraries or ODA drives
Media Asset Management applications
WORM functionality. Both MatrixStore object storage and ODA provide this important function
Sony's Optical Disc Archive (ODA) is already recognisedfor its robustness and longevity. Across the globe, organisations are adopting Optical Disc Archive to keep their files safe and ensure peace of mind. It is well suited for deep long-term digital media preservation, where data tape does not provide the assurance of Write Once (WORM) and disaster tolerant archive requirements. It can provide a second-copy for near-online or external storage at remote sites, ideal for business continuity/disaster recovery, production and post-production backup and for video, film, stock footage archives or national archives. The system can also be used for news and sports clips for proxy workflows and quick partial file restores, thanks to random access performance.
MatrixStore is deployed globally as a trusted nearline hub handling multiple workflows and satisfying numerous business requirements; from providing secure ingest storage to delivering proven disaster recovery and business continuity workflows.
The integrated bundles will be available from Q3 2016.
