Story Highlights
When the YES Network launched in March 2002, the New York Yankees had appeared in five of the previous six World Series. When the New York City-area regional sports network hits air tonight for pregame coverage of the Yankees' appearance vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series, it'll be just the third time in the network's history that it has experienced the thrill of covering its team in the Fall Classic.
Yeah, you could say there's a real buzz around the building.
This means everything, says Jared Boshnack, VP, production, YES Network, who has been with the network since launch, starting as a graphics coordinator. It's the culmination of a season in which the blood, sweat, and tears have been put in by everybody - from our senior management team right through our production-truck and studio crew and everybody far and wide that is associated with the product on the air. We all want to see this through to the very end and the ultimate result in covering a World Champion.
YES Network hosted a World Series Preview Special on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The show, which emanated from the RSN's studio in Stamford, CT, featured (from left) Bob Lorenz, Jack Curry, John Flaherty, and Michael Kay.
YES Network is ready to continue the pre/postgame studio coverage that it has offered through the Yankees' postseason run. For the World Series, it's a 90-minute pregame show and a 90-minute show airing immediately after the final out of that night's game.
The RSN will have an on-field presence at all games in both Los Angeles and New York but will anchor coverage from its Stamford, CT-based studios. For games at Dodger Stadium, reporter Meredith Marakovits and analyst Joe Girardi (who managed the Yankees in their most recent World Series appearance, in 2009) will report from the field; host Bob Lorenz, Yankees play-by-play caller Michael Kay, and analysts Jack Curry and John Flaherty will be in the studio. When the scene shifts to The Bronx for Games 3, 4, and (if necessary) 5, Kay will join Marakovits and analyst Paul O'Neill at Yankee Stadium. Lorenz, Curry, and Flaherty will remain in the studio.

YES Network has also bolstered its social-media coverage around the team during this postseason run. The RSN has partnered with Alex Day, a popular baseball influencer and content creator, for fun, man-on-the-street segments in and around Yankee Stadium on postseason game days.
He is very engaging, says Boshnack. He's the ingredient that brings in the fan flavor, the excitement of everybody going through these games. He's going to bring that to our audience.

The hype around this World Series is significant, and, with multiple broadcasters - FOX Sports, MLB Network, Japan's NHK, and others - onsite to provide live coverage, the production compounds at both venues are at overflow capacity. That means YES Network has needed to get creative with its video-signal transport. At Dodger Stadium, the onsite feed will be sent to Stamford via LiveU. At Yankee Stadium, the network has direct fiber connectivity to Stamford, making it easy to transmit feeds from its shooting position on the field.
All the effort is worth it to the YES Network team. Boshnack believes that, as the local broadcaster for the team, the network has the duty to provide the most comprehensive coverage of the games and give diehard fans a place to gather both before and after games. Nobody knows the team better than we do, he says. We're in the trenches with them all year long. Our responsibility is to continue to chronicle and document it to the expectation that viewers and fans alike have of our network.
YES Network's coverage of the 2024 World Series begins tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET on YES Network, the YES App, and the Gotham Sports App.
