That Station Airs Live Broadcast of Exclusive Music at Mansion Concert for Come Hear NC

95.7 FM That Station got a chance to give listeners a virtual front row seat for an exclusive invite-only concert at the NC Governors Mansion at 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. That Station aired a live broadcast of the Come Hear NC Music at the Mansion performance by NC musician Jim Lauderdale and the Fireside Collective. The event was not open to the public, but That Station shared it live.

That Station Music Curator Sean McHugh hosted the broadcast.

The idea for the livestream came from a discussion with Rebecca Moore at the NC Arts Council who always looks for opportunities to involve us, explained WRAL-FM Account Executive Constance Petot. She has been an amazing partner and we have really enjoyed working with her.

The NC Arts Council has created a year-long campaign, Come Hear NC, to celebrate North Carolina music and its impact. The 2019 celebration runs the gamut from jazz to hip-hop to country to R&B, with composers, musicians, studios, venues, instrument makers, labels, record stores, promoters, places, listeners and communities who create, support and sustain our music.

Petot explained, The campaign itself was the brainchild of Governor Roy Cooper and First Lady Kristin Cooper who are major supporters of the arts.

The First Lady decided to create a 6-part series called Music at the Mansion. The Tuesday night concert with Jim Lauderdale and the Fireside Collective was part of that series.

Jim Lauderdale is an North Carolina artist that has lived all over the state, from Statesville to Flat Rock, said Petot. He has spent his life bouncing around the state and has written hundreds of songs reflecting his life here. He was joined by the Fireside Collective, a Bluegrass band from Asheville.

Lauderdale wrote the theme song for the Come Hear NC Campaign. He played When Carolina Comes Again (see the video for the song below) for the invite-only crowd in the music room at the Executive Mansion, which the First Lady calls, The Peoples Mansion.
