Filming on Copa de Elite, Vitor Brandt s feature that refers to several recent hit Brazilian movies, began in early November and continues on through mid-December. We poke fun at films like Elite Squad, Minha m e uma pe a, Bruna Surfistinha, Chico Xavier, Nosso Lar and Se eu fosse voc . There are lots of comedies here, but satire is still an unexplored genre in Brazil , says the director. A Glaz production, the film is supported by Filme Rio Rio Film Commission.
With a cast filled with the newest crop of Brazilian comedy actors that has been a huge hit on TV and on the internet, the picture tells the story of Captain Jorge, played by Marcos Veras. A BOPE officer that its, a member of the Special Police Operations Battalion -, he is a nationwide hero, but when he gets involved in the rescue of the Argentine soccer team right before the FIFA World Cup he is instantly reviled by his fans. He s kicked out of the police force and seeks help from sex-shop entrepreneur Bia Alpinistinha, played by J lia Rabello who currently stars in the tremendously-popular web series Porta dos Fundos. Together they hatch a plan to protect the Pope from an attempt against his life that will supposedly take place at the end of the tournament.
An assortment of Brazilian personalities can be seen throughout: funk sensation Anitta, Alexandre Frota, Ant nio Pedro, Bento Ribeiro, Bruno de Lucca and Thammy Gretchen are some of them. The cast also includes Daniel Furlan (O ltimo Programa do Mundo) and Rafinha Bastos.
Captain Jorge s fun saga takes him to several locations, among them F brica Bhering, in the Santo Cristo district; Museu Nacional de Belas Artes and Pal cio Gustavo Capanema, both in downtown Rio; Aterro do Flamengo, Arpoador beach, Escadaria Selar n, in the Lapa district, the Jo o Havelange Olympic Stadium, the Santa Marta community, in the Botafogo district, the UFRJ college campus, as well as spots in Catete, Jacarepagu , Recreio and Copacabana. Production wraps December 12 and the film is scheduled for a Christmas 2014 release.
