Watch Live Tonight at 10.35pm on RT One and RT Player
RT One's brand new eight-part current affairs panel series, Monday Night Live, starts tonight at 10.35pm presented by David McCullagh. The new panel discussion show will see each hour-long programme dedicated to a major issue impacting people's lives right across the country.
Tonight, the first programme will examine the impact the cost-of-living crisis is having and the challenges people face every day as many of them struggle to survive. From rampant food inflation to spiralling energy prices, how this autumn many are faced with having to decide between food or heat.
Joining David McCullagh on the panel will be Minister Simon Harris, Fine Gael TD, Louise O'Reilly, Sinn Fein TD for Dublin Fingal, Editor of The Currency, Ian Kehoe and journalist Jennifer O'Connell from The Irish Times. Monday Night Live will also feature additional input from invited contributors including Caitr ona Twomey of Cork Penny Dinners, Comedian and Writer Martin Beanz Warde, Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of Supermacs and Dr Paul Dean of MaREI, the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine.
The programme will discuss the real effect on families and people, as well as the effect on businesses and the economy. The panel and contributors will examine among other things, food inflation and spiralling energy costs. As energy companies report record profits Monday Night Live will look at the debate for energy price caps for businesses and consumers. The programme will also look at solutions and suggestions on how to survive the winter.
Ahead of presenting the first episode of Monday Night Live, broadcaster David McCullagh said: I know so many people are feeling the impact of the spiralling cost of living every day, it's one of the first things people are talking about. We are going to take an in-depth look at an issue on our new programme, hear from some of those affected, and see what solutions might help them.
The autumn eight-part series will deal with the major issues affecting people, including the housing shortage, childcare, and climate change. Journalists David McCullagh, Sharon Tobin, Louise Byrne and Mark Coughlan will host the series, with each presenting two programmes.
