An eclipse is predicted for the year 2024, according to the website Time and Date.

The rare solar eclipse is expected to happen almost mid-way through the year, obscuring the sun's view for parts of the world - including the United States and Canada.

An eclipse brings the spectators into darkness, blocking the rays of the sun from reaching our

atmosphere on Earth.

The event is set to happen on 6 April, which has thousands of people all over the world setting their reminders for the date.

Solar events like this are rare, and the next one like this will only happen again in several years.

More about the 2024 eclipse The 2024 solar event is expected to block out the sun's view for parts of the world that include the United States and Canada.

A total solar event can plunge these areas into darkness, almost completely obscuring the sun's view - and making light look like something between night-time and dusk.

Can South Africans see the 2024 eclipse? South Africans might not be able to see the full 2024 event, and it will mostly be visible to other areas like the United States and Canada.

The event can still be streamed online through platforms like YouTube.

Lunar events for December and January More special events can still be seen this year, as we prepare for the last moon of the year on 28 December, 2023.

After this, the lunar event announcing January will happen on the sixth day of the month in 2024.
