Panasonic has announced the immediate availability of a five-meter extension unit for its VariCam 35 4K and VariCam HS camera/recorders. Capitalizing on the unique modular design of the new VariCams, with the respective camera heads dockable to a common recorder, the new extension cable permits operational separation of the camera head from the recorder and will increase the versatility of both models in situations requiring mobility, agility and reduced weight.
The company will also make a 20-meter extension unit. These cables will enhance the VariCams' effectiveness in Steadicam, crane and jib work, stunt and aerial shots, and more.
The VariCam extension unit system consists of the AU-VEXT1 (the two adapters to attach the cable to the camera and recorder) and the AU-VCBL05 five-meter cable. Suggested list prices are $7,000 for the AU-VEXT1 and $1,800 for the AU-VCBL05. Pricing and availability for the 20-meter cable are to be announced.
