SCTE MOURNS LOSS OF CATHY OAKES, SVP OPERATIONS

NOV. 18, 2013 (Exton, PA) Funeral arrangements will take place Friday for Cathy Oakes, senior vice president, operations for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), who passed away suddenly early Saturday.

A viewing will be take place from 8:30 10:15 AM on Friday, Nov. 22. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly at 10:30 AM. Both the viewing and the Mass will take place at St. Elizabeth's Church in Chester Springs, PA.

During her seven years with SCTE, Oakes had responsibility for a wide range of activities, including Membership, National Conferences, Human Resources, Administration and others. She took a leading role in the creation of numerous programs, including: the SCTE Corporate Alliance Program; the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program with the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College; and Women's TechConnect, a mentoring program for women technologists that is a joint initiative of SCTE and Women in Cable Telecommunications. She also was actively involved in the expansion of the SCTE Foundation.

Oakes was an alumna of the SCTE-Tuck Executive Leadership Program. She was to have been honored this Thursday for the second time as one of the Top Women in Cable Technology, as selected by CableFax, a leading industry publication.

"The sudden and unexpected loss of Cathy Oakes leaves a tremendous hole in many lives," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. "We'll remember her as someone who was committed to SCTE, a leader in the industry and dedicated to her husband and children. Our hearts go out to her family."

Oakes joined SCTE as vice president, finance in 2006 after having worked as tax director for Stockton Bates, a Philadelphia-based accounting firm. Previously she was actively involved in cable finance, mergers and acquisitions during eight years with The Harron Companies, for which she served as CFO and treasurer.

Oakes is survived by her husband Terry and by Terry Jr., Christina, Bridget, and Olivia.
