Berlin hosted the ISU World Allround Speed Skating Championships for the third time in history

Sven Kramer came to Berlin to lead the Dutch quest to equal Norway's record total of 36 World Allround titles in the Men's tournament at Sportforum Hohensch nhausen. Martina S blikov (CZE) and Ireen W st (NED) reignited their battle for the ladies' crown after W st's absence on the international stage in the first half of the World Cup season. Kramer and S bl kov were the defending Champions.

Competition Format

A total of 24 ladies and 24 men from 18 different countries competed in the big combination. For the Ladies the big combination consists of 500m, 3000m, 1500m, and 5000m and the men have to skate 500m, 5000m, 1500m and 10,000m. Points will be calculated on the basis of the 500m (eg time from the 1500m and 5000m will be divided by 3 and 10 respectively).

World Feed Production

Host broadcaster rbb (Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg) had developed an 18-camera plan for the world feed and had hired production company TopVision to produce the two days event with its HD2.

Highlight of the production was camera #13 - a Sony HDC-4300 housed in a large lense adaptor with a Canon Digisuper 95 in combination with an EVS XT3 running already the ChannelMAX software which supports 8x SuperMotion. The Sony/EVS combination delivered stunning and flickerfree images and managed the combination of daylight and artifical light in the Sportforum Hohensch nhausen without any problem.

Kramer, S blikov claim speedskating world allround titles

Sven Kramer of the Netherlands won his record-extending eighth speedskating world allround title while Martina S blikov of the Czech Republic clinched her fourth on Sunday.

Kramer won the mens 10,000 meters in a track record 13 minutes, 7.19 seconds, beating compatriot Jan Blokhuijsen by 3.73 and Norways Sverre Lunde Pedersen by 4.64. Kramer was earlier third in the 1,500 - 0.81 behind Pedersen, who won in 1:46.24. Polands Konrad Niedzwiedzki was second, 0.60 behind.

Defending champion S blikov also set a track record, winning the 5,000 in 6:52.57, beating Dutch skaters Ireen W st, Antoinette de Jong and Linda de Vries. W st captured the womens 1,500 in 1:54.83, edging Sablikova by 0.61 seconds and de Vries by 2.21. Sablikova claimed her previous allround titles in 2009, 2010 and 2015.
