New Study Reveals Mobile Usage Increases Productivity in the United States

Mountain View, Calif., October 23, 2013 - It's no surprise that the United States is mad for mobile, but according to a new study released today by LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, mobile devices are being used for more than just fun and games - they're vital to our daily lives. According to the LinkedIn study, 82 percent of people in the United States feel their time spent on mobile devices makes them more productive. In an effort to further support productivity, LinkedIn today announces three updates to its mobile experience to help members make the most of their professional moments throughout the day, wherever they may be.

Seventy percent of American professionals state they couldn't survive a work day without checking their mobile device. Not only are employees using mobile devices to keep up with their professional and personal networks, but they are relying on the efficiencies and conveniences of applications, such as those offered by LinkedIn, to help them excel in their careers.

The new LinkedIn survey reveals ways in which mobile devices keep Americans going, including:

Breaking News: Seventy-two percent of people in the U.S. watch or read the news via a mobile device

Among Friends: Eighty-four percent of people in the U.S., ages 18-34, read or view content on their mobile devices that has been recommended by their friends, peers or social networks

On the Hunt: Fifty-three percent of people in the U.S., ages 18-34, have searched for a new job or communicated with a potential employer on a mobile device while at work

Staying Connected: Eighty-percent of people in the U.S. believe their mobile devices enable them to stay fully connected to their work and professional networks

The LinkedIn Mobile platform offers a seamless flow of knowledge and information from one device to another, enabling members to stay connected with their professional networks, increase productivity, seek new opportunities and change their career trajectory from anywhere, at any time. Today, the company announces a diverse portfolio of new and revamped applications to enhance mobile for LinkedIn members.

Traditional boundaries of career and work have evolved. Managing your professional brand is no longer a confined experience inside the office or bound to a set schedule, says Deep Nishar, SVP of products and user experience at LinkedIn. Whether at the office, on the road or at home, LinkedIn and the new mobile apps allow members to achieve their goals and aspirations that transcends the 9-to-5 workday.

The re-imagined LinkedIn app for iPad was designed with the busy professional in mind, providing members with a more personalized experience optimized for the tablet environment. New features include expanded search, improved navigation and social capabilities such as comment, share, and like, allowing for more informed and smarter business decisions.

LinkedIn's newest mobile offering, LinkedIn Intro, provides business insights by embedding valuable LinkedIn profile data directly into the body of an email to help members get to know their business contacts better. Professional history, shared experiences and connections as well as recent status updates, become readily available to help put faces to names, write more effective emails and establish a rapport.

Pulse, the premier destination for professionals to discover and discuss top news and insights, is being refreshed for mobile devices to offer a more customized and personalized experience for increased productivity and success.

The LinkedIn Survey was conducted by Wakefield Research (www.wakefieldresearch.com) among 1,000 nationally representative U.S. adults ages 18+, between September 26th and October 4th 2013, using an email invitation and an online survey. Quotas have been set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the U.S. adult population 18+.
