Eight female contestants upped the ante and awed Idols judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Msengana and Gareth Cliff, as they sang for a spot in the SA Top 10 on Friday 20 September. The contestants performed South African chart hits, and set the standard for the next round of voting, left entirely in the audience s hands.

Viewers have until 22h00 on Monday 23 September to vote for the their favourite performers, and will find out who stays in the running for sSeason 9 at the live results show on Tuesday 24 September at 19h30 on M-Net and Mzanzi Magic.

Carle Van Deventer (30) from Centurion kicked off Friday s show with her rendition of Brave by Sarah Bereilles, and was credited for her engaging crowd interaction. Confidence was also key when Cape Towns Tana Collier, aged 26, delivered her performance of One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) by One Direction, in true farmgirl-punk style.

The judges acknowledged growth in 21-year-olds Tumi Lesenjane and Christina Williams as they moved audiences with their renditions of ballads. Tumi represented Gauteng in her performance of Beneath You re Beautiful by Labrynth and Christina did hometown Port Elizabeth proud with her song Clown by Emeli Sand .

Twenty-year-old Amy Jones impressed the judges with the new energy she brought to the song, Brand New Me by Alecia Keys.

Sophisticated 26-year-old Bunny Majaja from Johannesburg showed a good interpretation of Let Her Go by Passenger, but with edgy performances by Joburgs 19year-old Zo Zana, who sang Lose to Win by Fantasia, and 24-year-old Durban contestant Crystalene Nair, performing Come and Get It by Selena Gomez, competition is at an all-time high.

From next week Idols will move to Moreleta Park NG Church in Pretoria where over 6,500 seats are available for the Idols Spectacular Shows.
