Rather than holding a virtual induction ceremony, the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame committee has decided to move the 2020 Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame class induction ceremony to December 2021, a move that will also result in no election of a 2021 class. The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame is a celebration that brings together families, reconnects old friends, and is an event that would lose much of its power in a virtual format, says Ken Aagaard, Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame Chairman.

The Induction Ceremony for the 2020 class will be held in December of 2021.

Aagaard says holding the event earlier in 2021 was considered but that with large public events in New York City pushed back until at least June committing to next December made sense.

We think next December gives us the best chance to hold a ceremony that can be a true celebration of not only the inductees but also an industry that has made such a huge difference to sports fans around the world during this terrible time, says Aagaard.

The class of 2020/2021 is comprised of Charles Barkley, James Brown, Don Cornelli, Tim Finchem, John Filippelli, Hugo Gaggioni, Fred Gaudelli, the late Phyllis George, and Tom Sahara.

The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame induction ceremony is the primary fundraiser for the Sports Broadcasting Fund, the industry's only charity fund that directly supports those in our industry who find themselves in need. And while the ceremony may be postponed the work done by the Fund will continue.

Even though we will not be holding the ceremony it is my hope that all of those organizations who traditionally purchase tickets and tables will donate to the Sports Broadcasting Fund so that we can continue to help those in need, says Aagaard. The COVID-19 crisis has made the work of the Sports Broadcasting Fund more important than ever.
