SVG sponsors were well-represented when the TEC Awards, pro audio's equivalent of the Emmys, were live at the NAMM Show for the first time in two years. The annual musical-instrument expo, which has become a leading pro-audio trade event in recent years, returned to the Anaheim Convention Center in June, six months later than its usual January slot.
For only the second time in TEC history, three companies won two awards each in Outstanding Technical Achievement. SVG sponsor Genelec was honored in the Production Essentials category and for FM Design in the Studio Design Project category.

In the Outstanding Creative Achievement category, ESPN parent Disney's Disney+ streaming service took home top honors in the Film Sound Production and Television Sound Production categories for its animated movie Soul and the second season of The Mandalorian, respectively.
On the Show Floor AT2040 hypercardioid dynamic podcast microphone
Pro-audio gear exhibited at the show floor included Audio-Technica's AT2040 hypercardioid dynamic podcast microphone. Inspired by the company's BP40 large-diaphragm dynamic broadcast microphone, the AT2040 brings broadcast-quality sound with exceptional voice reproduction to podcasters. Its tight hypercardioid polar pattern enhances isolated/up-close vocal reproduction and rejection of unwanted room noise. The mic's multistage windscreen combines a nonwoven filter with foam mesh to provide superior internal pop filtering, and a specially designed integrated shock mount prevents unwanted noise by attenuating vibration from a boom arm or mic stand. The AT2040's XLR output connects to a conventional analog microphone input, providing versatile use with everything from USB audio interfaces to professional mixing consoles.
Solid State Logic demonstrated its new SSL Live L550 Plus audio-mixing console and V5.1 software ORIGIN, as well as audio-creation tools THE BUS+, Fusion, BiG SiX, UF8 advanced DAW controller, and SSL 2/2+ interfaces.
Shure, which had a presence on the outdoor plaza, showcased its newly launched KSM11 mic, which features a wireless condenser capsule providing high off-axis rejection and shock isolation, along with plosive protection. Available in black and brushed-nickel finishes, it's intended for use on Shure wireless handheld transmitters. The next-generation model in the KSM line, KSM11 features a lighter, streamlined design, with a -in. gold diaphragm and high-end electronics to enhance dynamic range.
The 2022 NAMM Show registered 46,627 attendees from 111 countries and territories and featured more than 1,000 exhibiting members representing 3,500 brands. The pre-pandemic January 2020 event logged 115,888 attendees and more than 7,000 exhibitors, making it one of the last large trade events before COVID shut the sector down.
